They have turned the renovating corner! It’s so exciting. The tearing apart is almost done and the putting back together has begun. The “wall” in the kitchen has been changed to a glass wall that will fold away and open to the gorgeous view. Honed concrete floors are going in this week and Jan is sourcing gorgeous finishings. I can’t wait to see the kitchen…. grey slab uppers but the island will be done in either walnut or teak. (Decision to be done)

Testimonial from Social Media Workshop with Leesa Hubbard

“When I received the notification for the workshop registry I hesitated. I figured I’m a pretty connected person, posting on my facebook and interacting through other types of social media on a daily basis. I asked myself what more is there to social media that I should spend a full day learning about it? The answer is LOTS!
Leesa Hubbard’s workshop was by far one the best investment I’ve made for my business this year. She’s not only very knowledgeable about the subject but also makes learning social media marketing fun and easy for those who are not as connected as I am. If there was a second part to this course I would not think twice about registering as I learned last Saturday there’s always more leaning to do when it comes to marketing your own business. Thank you Leesa and Flüff for facilitating this workshop.”

Twelve home staging tips for 2012.
The trends for this year are bright colours, bold prints and accessories that give a big impact.
1)Tangerine in not the only hue, but at Fluff we love orange.
2) Unusual shapes make a big impact! Who wants to be usual?
3) LED lights are great for the environment but these cleaver LED coaster lights coupled up with a vase creates an interesting light feature.
4) Wall paper, the bolder the better.
5) Lamp shade to pendant lighting, clever Shane.
6) Patio furniture- lounge, dinning or both if you have room.
7) Industrial wood and metal is a great look.
8) Double-duty deco. Wine glasses are the swiss army knife of the staging world.
9) Retro-tastic!
10) Flower power
11) Bronze and Copper – the new Chrome!
12) You smile, we smile

Sunshine Coast encounter!

Rick and I have been trying to get up to the Sunshine Coast for several months and we finally booked it. In the past, we have stayed at Tuwanek Hotel (www.tuwanekhotel.com) and it has been so great in the past we decided to try it again. We certainly weren’t disappointed.

When we got off the ferry we stopped in Gibson’s for a little lunch. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the artist’s walk was on (I am not sure this was as much of a highlight for Rick as it was for me). The most enjoyable and inspiring stop was at Ursela’s felt studio. My goodness, this woman’s creations were so magnificent. I highly recommend you seeking her out if you are in Gibsons.
Next stop was to see Sharon’s new store – Upstage. We all know Sharon for her staging business on Sechelt but she has now expanded and opened a retail location. It is so incredibly cute. Anyone could find something wonderful to take home from her inventory mix. Friends of ours have moved to the coast from West Vancouver so we stopped and had tea with them. They have definitely embraced the “Coast” lifestyle. And then off to Nirvana aka Tuwanek Hotel. I highly recommend a getaway weekend to this charming hotel. The service is impeccable.
Another great find!

Whenever a sledgehammer is involved, things usually turn ugly. But not at the Carmicheal House. This sledgehammer broke down a couple walls and moved the front door further away. This created more space in the house! Also, we found a rare item; an original George Nelson Bubble Lamp! These lamps were created in the 1940s.
Like what Howard Miller wrote in his 1968 sales brochure, “The airy, lighthearted ‘Bubbles’ designed by George Nelson, make lamps and lighting fixtures that are so effective and functional in today’s contemporary settings. Their pleasing shapes are fashioned in sturdy, light-weight steel and a special translucent white plastic”. It is true because the lamp is still functional and in one piece after so many years! As always, the Carmicheal House is full of surprises and treasures.

There is always something interesting at the Carmicheal House. As you might know already, the Carmincheal House has been around for many years. The items in the house have a lot of history. For instance, there is an oil meter and Maytag washing machine that is more than 50 years new (new because they still work and in perfect condition!). The Maytag team will be showcasing the washing machines in the Maytag Showroom. How exciting is that! Not only is the Charmichael house fascinating from the inside, the tree outside has a very interesting and beautiful pattern on it.

A Blogable abode
Published July 6, 2011 Updates Leave a CommentTags: Blogable Abode, Building Process, Vancouver Laneway Housing
Perusing the saturday Globe and Mail, an article struck a chord. “A Blogable abode” by Hadani Ditmars, an article about a young Vancouver couple, Akua Schatz and Brendon Purdy who decided to blog about building their 500-square-foot laneway house in Brendon,s parents’ Dunbar backyard. The couple spent over a year building and blogging about one of Vancouver’s more controversial population densification strategies. Not everyone is keen on the laneway houses popping up around Vancouver, Schatz and Purdy see it as a good thing, by building small and green they are saving farmlands and forests from being over run for suburbs.
